Westminster School row for mental health

Westminster School will shine a spotlight on mental health in October, as the first South Australian school to participate in Gotcha4Life’s largest annual fundraising and awareness campaign, the 24 Hour Row. The school’s new sporting complex, the Thomas Pavilion will play host to the event from 30 – 31 October.

Angela Phillips, Pedagogy Coach, is spearheading Westminster’s fundraiser and says,

“Members of our community have been impacted by the effects of mental health, whether directly or indirectly, we want to show our support as a community and emphasise how important it is to seek help when you need it.”

The campus will be abuzz right across the event weekend, with the local community, students, families and teaching staff throwing their support behind the initiative.

24 hour non-stop row event at Westminster

All participants will be donating their time and energy to complete a half hour segment of the 24 Hour non-stop row, from the multi ergo setup on campus, with up to four rowers taking part at any one time.

“Especially during these challenging times, the more we can talk about and raise awareness for mental health, the better. I’m really pleased Westminster is supporting a cause like this and excited to get on a rower and do my part,” says Westminster School Vice Captain, Kimberly Li.

The 24 Hour Row for Mental Health directly benefits non-for-profit organisation, Gotcha4Life. The initiative was launched in 2018 across Surf Life Saving Clubs in a bid to help fund Gotcha4Life’s education workshops and training programs, which build mental fitness in local communities. In 2021, the event aims to raise $150,000 Australia-wide after raising $130,000 in 2020.

Donations can be made on campus at the event or directly on the Westminster fundraising page.
