Our favourite part about Easter (other than the egg hunt of-course) is food shopping at the Adelaide Central Markets. The wafting smell of freshly baked hot cross buns; the hustle and bustle of busy shoppers; the fresh seafood display cabinets; the Haigh’s chocolate store…oh what a joy!
This year nearly half a million shoppers are expected to visit the Adelaide Central Market in the lead up to Easter hunting for the freshest produce, South Australian seafood and traditional Easter fare. Market traders will bake more than 75,000 house-made hot cross buns... woah!
Projected to be one of their biggest Easter trades yet, here are some fun food stats for this year:
Market trader projections for Easter 2018 Dough Bakery: 20,000 house-made sourdough fruit hot cross buns
Samtass Seafood: 250kg of Spencer Gulf prawns, 500kg fresh local snapper, 100kg of SA flathead fillets
House of Health: 2,000 fruit and chocolate paleo hot cross buns
Wild Loaf: 5,500 house-made spelt fruit hot cross buns
Baker’s Delight: 30,000 hot cross buns (50,000 hot cross buns sold during March 2018)
Fruit and Veg: 1 million kilograms of fresh produce
