Indelabilityarts Returns to Adelaide Fringe Festival with Wilbur the Optical Whale
indelabilityarts is bringing its new show “Wilbur the Optical Whale” to the Adelaide Convention Centre as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2020.
Playing from February 20, “Wilbur the Optical Whale” is the newest instalment from the Brisbane-based company, which employs artists living with a disability to perform stories which celebrate difference and promote inclusiveness.
Wilbur the Optical Whale
The disability-inclusive theatre company is set to delight young audiences with a story which celebrates difference. The children’s show incorporates, circus, acrobatics, interactive visuals to tell a story which champions difference in a way which is fully accessible for all people.
“Wilbur the Optical Whale” is the tale of Wilbur, a glasses-wearing whale who, along with his best friend Cecil the Shark, encourages children to accept everyone just as they are. The story takes place under the sea, where the audience are taken on an immersive journey to engage with the environment around them.
Employing art forms including circus, interactive visuals, and sound design, the audience will take a deep sea sensory dive to meet Wilbur and his cheeky friends.
Circus and acrobatics
This original show marks the coming together of indelabilityarts, with youth-arts company Flipside Circus, to present a unique performance which incorporates circus and acrobatics into the interactive story.
“We are going to have interactive digital media and pre and post show workshops. We have the capacity to set the stage up in a space that can be like an installation and have roving characters and the children can explore it before and after the show.” Catarina Hebbard, Co-Artistic Director of indelabilityarts, says.
