Bonds chatted to Georgia to find out how she started her career, what inspires her love of design and her advice for anyone wanting to follow in her bright path. Read on…
How did you first get into art and design?
I loved art and making things all throughout my school years, and both my parents were super creative so I guess you could say it was in my blood. I studied Visual Communication at university, but it’s been a long and windy road getting to where I am now.
What does a typical day for you look like?
I’ve always been an early riser, so my day usually starts with some Instagram scrolling in bed ( I’m only human!) and then some form of exercise and meditation. We just opened a real-life shop in Fitzroy, Melbourne so the days at the moment are full and fast! Lots of emails, researching new products and designing my own accessories range.
Do you have a style icon and if so, who?
Probably Iris Apfel – she’s the kind of old lady I’d love to be one day.
Who or what inspires you?
Inspiration is everywhere for me – in listening to music, looking at art, reading books, watching TV, travelling to new places and hanging out with my friends. You just have to keep your eyes open and you can find it anywhere!
What do you love most about the holiday season?
The warm weather, cherries and over-the-top accessorising.
What’s your happiest Christmas memory?
When the Christmas holidays seemed endless and were filled with sleepovers, icy-poles, and trips to the pool.
What do you love most about your job?
Being my own boss, being able to employ other women and being in control of my own destiny.
My favourite thing about working with Bonds is…
Having my work reach so many new people.
Why did you want to work with Bonds?
Bonds are such an iconic Australian brand and they really value creativity – and I also love their undies
What advice do you have for anyone looking to get into graphic art?
Just don’t ever stop making and experimenting. There are so many directions you can take your career – try out lots of things until you find your place in the world.
